MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Back in 2008 I made a post around Christmas time pertaining to this plate.  It is a bit…raw in terms of humor but I thought it might be fun to post it again and maybe make a tradition of it.

Enjoy and know that I am probably going to Hell for his.

Superman has a rather pleasant look on his face and is inviting Batman to come in.  Secretly he’s thinking, “Great Rao, Bruce, get that batarang out of your ass and join the Rao damn party.”

Why is Plastic Man giving Hal Jordan a back rub?

Plastic Man is also checking out Superman’s behind.  It’s why he wears the sunglasses, by the way.  That way he can just stare and stare and no one will notice.

Hawkman is not having a good time because Hawkman NEVER has a good time.

Hawkgirl is about five seconds from telling Carter that he needs to get the mace out of his ass and have a good time or so help her Ra she is leaving him and shaking up with Green Arrow.  She doesn’t care that Green Arrow is with Dinah because secretly Dinah’s into that kind of thing and Hawkgirl knows this.

Wonder Woman is enjoying herself because the pagan nature of the Christmas tree appeals to her upbringing.

Aquaman really wants to ask Zatana out.  Zatana doesn’t even know he’s alive.

Zatana…I really have nothing here.  Zatana is just having a good time and misses her Dad.  I mean he’s dead, right?  Has DC retconned that yet?

Captain Marvel doesn’t get any of the jokes that Ollie tells, but he laughs anyway so he doesn’t look like a dork.

Barry so wants to call him out on that.

Ollie is secretly thinking how awesome it would be to bag Hawkgirl and Black Canary at the same time and be part of a Pretty Bird Sandwich.

Dinah wants to leave Ollie for Hawkgirl.

What…in the hell…is Red Tornado drinking?

J’onn is on his fifth Manhattan and is getting to be a bit of a jerk.

Batman is thinking about how he is an orphan at Christmas time.  Because Batman is ALWAYS thinking about the fact that he is an orphan and everyone wants to tell him to knock that crap off but he has those files on how to kill them so they keep quiet and Batman really, really likes that.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!

FROM CRISIS TO CRISIS EPISODE 78: JULY 1991 PART 2

Episode 78: July 1991 Part 2

Welcome to the seventy-eighth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Part index. Part commentary. Part history lesson. All podcast.

July 1991 and what Mike and Jeff call Return of the Krypton Man conclude this week as the new format of From Crisis to Crisis continues. In Adventures of Superman #480 the battle between Superman and the Eradicator continues as the supporting cast takes more of a front seat story wise. Then in Action Comics #667 it is the final faceoff between the Last Son of Krypton and the Last Artifact of Krypton. The two duke it out in the Fortress of Solitude with Emil Hamilton’s life hanging in the balance…sort of. After that the boys look at Adventures of Superboy #18 and talk about the last two episodes of Season 3 of that fine show.

And now…the scans.

Episode 77: July 1991 Part 2

Welcome to the seventy-seventh episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

A new format and a new monthly Superman title kick off this week!

Yes indeed, dear listeners, the kind of new, not so different era of From Crisis to Crisis begins this week as Mike and Jeffrey start to split the cover dates into two parts. So one week you’ll get Superman: The Man of Steel and Superman and the next you’ll get Adventures of Superman and Action Comics. This week the boys kick off with the previously mentioned Superman: The Man of Steel which in turn kicks off a story that Mike and Jeffrey call Return of the Krypton Man even though it isn’t officially called that in the titles. In that first issue of Superman: The Man of Steel strange happenings are afoot in Metropolis and an old threat comes back to face the Man of Steel. In Superman #57 the threat stands revealed and in a great cliffhanger ending Superman gets a little of his own throwing things into the sun medicine. Then Jeff and Mike discuss a few episodes of Adventures of Superman and Jeffrey gives you the skinny on what was happening (or in this case not happening) elsewhere in the world while these issues were on the stands.

And now…the return of the scans!

SEVEN YEARS AGO TODAY

Seven years ago today it was announced that Sadaam Hussein had been found.  On that same day Rachel and I got married.

If all went well we got back home yesterday from a four day weekend in Chattanooga, where we honeymooned back in 2003.  I am truly the luckiest man alive to have a wife that loves and cares about me as much as Rachel does not to mention the fact that she puts up with and enables my addiction to comics.

Love ya, baby!

FROM CRISIS TO CRISIS EPISODE 76: THE E-MAILS RETURN

Episode 76: The E-Mails Return!

Mike and Jeff could not get their schedules together in time to record this week so the e-mails return in full force! So this episode is all about you the listeners and the boys go off on all kinds of tangents based on the questions asked. Topics include Superman II: The Donner Cut, what Jeffery and Mike would do if they wrote Superman, how their wives feel about the show and much, much more. Jeff and Mike feel bad that they couldn’t deliver on the episode they promised but they hope you like this episode anyway.

You can subscribe to the show in two ways. First there is the RSS Feed and there is also the iTunes link .

FROM CRISIS TO CRISIS EPISODE 75: ARMAGEDDON 2001 PART 2

Episode 75: Armageddon 2001 Part 2

Welcome to the seventy-fifth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Part index. Part commentary. Part history lesson. All podcast.

It is episode 75 and surprisingly (though some might say disappointingly) no one dies in an epic battle with Doomsday. Instead, Mike and Jeff finish up their Armageddon 2001 talk by looking at Adventures of Superman Annual #3 (where Superman leaves Earth after a terrible tragedy and ends up hooking up with Maxima) and Armageddon 2001 #2 (where Monarch’s identity is revealed and a big ol’ fight breaks out). Between those two comics the boys give you an overview of the other ARMAGEDDON 2001 annuals in addition to delving into why the big reveal of Monarch’s identity was such a letdown despite the series being so good.

Again, no scans this week as it would just ruin the books.  Sorry.

Next week: E-mails!  Lots and lots of e-mails.

FROM CRISIS TO CRISIS EPISODE 74: ARMAGEDDON 2001 PART 1

Episode 74: Armageddon 2001 Part 1

Welcome to the seventy-fourth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Part index. Part commentary. Part history lesson. All podcast.

Armageddon comes to From Crisis to CrisisArmageddon 2001 that is. Mike and Jeff dive into one of the major crossovers from 1991 and kick off part 1 of a 2 part episode looking the adventures of Waverider as he plies the time stream searching for the hero that becomes the greatest villain of all…MONARCH! In Armageddon 2001 #1 we see the origin of Waverider and a glimpse into a dark future for the DC Universe. The boys follow Waverider into Superman Annual #3 which shows a future where Superman goes too far leading to a final battle with…BATMAN! Then in Action Comics Annual #3 we see a world where Superman runs for President and actually wins. Its two hours of time spanning audio and we see two possible futures for the Man of Steel plus the origin of a character that will be popping up here and there in the Superman books for the next few “years”.

No scans this time out (or next time out for that matter) because these books are bigger than the average issue and have a square binding so putting that on Mike’s scanner is rather difficult and would pretty much ruin the issue.

You can subscribe to the show in two ways. First there is the RSS Feed and there is also the iTunes link .

Seriously, let us know what you think.

Next week: The second and final part of the Superman end of Armageddon 2001. Lois dies and Superman hooks up with a certain red head.

ACQUISITIONS FOR 12/02/2010

I mentioned in a recent episode of Views From The Longbox that I am a big fan of older trade paperbacks.  Recently I managed to snag a first printing of the Maximum Carnage trade for a relative steal on eBay.  In all honesty it isn’t all that different from the current version floating around but I really like this cover.  It’s a Ron Lim (I like me some Ron Lim) piece and while it is not dynamic it sure is memorable.  The date on the credits page is listed as 1994 (the year I graduated high school) and has an introduction and afterward by J.M. DeMatteis where he explains the origins of the story.  Here’s the back cover.

$24.95 seems to be the average price of a trade paperback these days.  In 1994 this must have seemed like a fortune.

But it’s mine and it was like $18 with shipping and that is all that matters.
