Mike Grell's run on that title is what turned me from a comics reader into a comics collector. (I own a complete run as well as every guest appearance, so I obviously like the character. Ha!) It's a true shame that DC editorial felt the need to tie the series into Legends -- and then move into a Power Girl origin revamp linked to Atlantis. The post-Crisis DC did a huge number of things right, including launching Suicide Squad and the new Justice League out of Legends, but tying Warlord into mainline continuity wasn't one of them. Re: Jeffrey's comment about "event fatigue" . . . The misuse and abuse of events hadn't yet turned most of us off. As Michael noted, most of us tended to be excited to see more great (i.e. exciting and new) work from great creators. The endless tie-ins and endless event-to-event cycle didn't exist, either, and while Secret Wars II was a blah event for Marvel, both companies were generally still doing a good job of keeping events focused, entertaining, and memorable *without* overhyping or focusing only on separating us from our $$$. I love it! I don't actually think it's a shame the book for "It's a Bird..." is being updated. Anything to get a wider audience for a Superman stage show. If Spidey can be a 21st-century hit on Broadway (although I realize that remains to be seen), why not Supes? I thought the comparison of "Legends" to Job was appropos, and very cool.
