Andrew and Micheal Leyland are awesome.
If those names aren’t familiar they should be. Andy and Micheal host Hey Kids Comics, one of the very best comic book related podcasts ever produced. Andy and I have been friends for years and occasionally we will send each other comics and such. Recently a package from Andy came in the mail that had a few issues of Batman that Andy had extras of and these.
If I didn’t mention it before or you aren’t familiar with Hey Kids Comics Andy and his son Micheal are from England and know of my fascination with UK reprints of American comics. So they thought I would like to have these.
And they were right.
These are freaking awesome.
Each issue contains about three regular issues worth of stories and while I already have all of the comics that this title reprints I love seeing how they were packaged across the pond. It’s kind of strange to see that tail end of Final Crisis led right into the Brainiac storyline. It is also strange but kind of cool to see that Superman Legends was using the variant covers to some of the Superman titles as the main covers to these reprints. The cover to issue 30 was the variant to the Superman: New Krypton Special that kicked off that storyline and the odd looking Lex and Brainiac cover (seriously, Lex looks like he is faking a smile and Brainiac looks…well, he looks like he’s on drugs) was the variant to Action Comics #871.
The production quality of these books are rather nice. The covers are a thick, glossy card stock (which makes them a pain in the ass to scan, by the way) and the paper stock is nice as well. The cost was 2.60 pounds, which converts to about $4.11 here in the states. So for five bucks you get three issues worth of material, which is a freaking steal considering the original books were three to four bucks a pop. All in all these are welcome additions to my collection and once again I thank Andy and Micheal for sending these to me.
