DC HOUSE AD – SUPERMAN COMICS

I recently made a bunch of scans from the three DC Samplers that were published from 1983 to 1985.  Here’s a two page spread (over two images) pimping the Superman titles from that time period.

There is a lot to like about these images.  I am not normally a fan of Gil Kane’s work on Superman but I like what he did for this promo image.  At least I think that is Gil Kane artwork.  It sure looks like it.

Hmmmm…

Moving on….just about everything about this two page spread would have made me want to pick up the Superman titles in 1983.  Superman and Lois calling it quits.  Clark Kent apparently spending some quality time with Lana Lang.  The problems with Perry.  The then upcoming revamps of Lex Luthor and Brainiac.  All of it looks so awesome and I love the DC Comics Presents ad on the second page.  The only problem I have is the Dial “H” for Hero portion of the ad as I utterly hated those back-ups.  Other than the ad it is sixteen pounds of freaking sweet stuff into a four pound bag.

More to follow…

Really? The best they could do for Jimmy was “out of trouble”? And that was considered *more* interesting than him being *in* trouble?

  2. That is indeed that mighty Gil Kane. I love Kane’s stuff especially when he’s inking himself like on this exceptional SUPERMAN run. Between him and Ditko I guess I just like the quirky stuff.

Is it wrong that I’m the most excited by the “Dial H for Hero” add?

That Kane image doesn’t really look that good to me. I prefer his Spider-Man work.

    Santa Claus! Awesome!
