Welcome to the one hundred and eighty first episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.
Part index. Part commentary. Part history lesson. All podcast.
ZERO HOUR CONTINUES!
IT REALLY DEPENDS ON HOW YOU WANT TO LOOK AT IT!
With the prelude out of the way Mike and Jeff dig into Zero Hour in earnest. They kick things off with Zero Hour #4, which begins with the death of a major villain (temporarily) and Extant putting his plans into motion. The Crisis of Infinite Batmans takes place in Superman: The Man of Steel #37 where the Man of Steel has to deal with different versions of the Dark Knight Detective. The crossovers continue in Superboy #8 where the Kid meets a very ticked off Pre-Crisis Superboy. In Batman #511 Batgirl is up and around as Batman and Robin fall into a time anomaly. In Flash #94 Wally gets to know Impulse before getting pulled to the future. Finally in Legionnaires #18 and Valor #23 End of an Era continues with the final battle with Glortih and Mordru.
BONUS MATERIAL BELOW THE CUT!
I’ve been posting a lot of neat Zero Hour bits of business over the last week or so and I thought that the actual show posting would be the best place to start rolling out the solicits that I scanned from Previews. First up is the solicitation for Zero Hour #4.
You knew it was a special book when DC popped for the color solicitation.
Next up are the solicits for Superman: The Man of Steel #37 and Superboy #8.
Here is a good example of a solicit spoiling something from one issue while another plays it closer to the vest. The Jor-El/Lara cliffhanger from Superman: The Man of Steel #37 was great but if you were getting Previews that ending was spoiled. Meanwhile, the Superboy solicit hints at something but doesn’t come right out and say who the super powered teenager is. I am curious as to who wrote those solicits and what their decision making process was.
Finally here is the last page to Zero Hour #4 that I read during the episode.
You can subscribe to the show in two ways. First there is the RSS Feed and there is also the iTunes link. Are you on Facebook? Be sure to “like” the official FCTC page, which you can find by clicking on this link.
If you want to comment on the show or contact the hosts you can always private message Mike and Jeff, at the Superman Homepage, leave comments here or at the Homepage or here or email them by clicking this link. All questions, concerns, fears, trepidations and cheap shots are welcome.
Next Time: Zero Hour continues in Zero Hour #3, Superman #93, Batman: Shadow of the Bat #31, Green Lantern #55, Hawkman #13 and Justice League America #92.
