FCTC EPISODE 251: JULY 1996 PART 1

Episode 251: July 1996 Part 1

Welcome to the two hundredth and fifty-first episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast!  This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Mike and Jeff kick off the back half of 1996 (at least in terms of the cover dates) with the first half of the July 1996 books.  In Superman #113 the boys find a very jubilant Clark Kent, who seems just fine with the recent break up with Lois, but Martha isn’t buying it.  Also, Lois finds out about an upcoming wedding and Jimmy acts like a jerk.  Then, in Superman: The Man of Tomorrow #5, Lex and the Contessa are getting hitched, and the race is on for Superman, Lois, and the SCU to put a stop to it.  Do they succeed?  Well…no, the don’t, but it’s a cool issue anyway.  Finally, in Adventures of Superman #536, Brainiac is back in the first of a four-part story by Tom Peyer, Mark Waid, and a whole bunch of artists.  Finally, Mike and Jeff ask, “Hey, Wha’ Happened?” in the real world with the two part finale to the third season of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (Through a Glass Darkly and Bigs Girls Don’t Fly), the big news events from the month these comics were released (Mike and Jeff have some personal stories to share), and the movies that came out that month as well.

Here are the covers and select pages from the books discussed during this episode.

Here is the cover that has been released for the upcoming Superman: The Man of Steel Volume 3 hardcover.

And here is that cool Stuart Immonen subscription ad.
