Episode 33: Jerry Ordway Part 2

Welcome to the thirty-third episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Part index. Part commentary. Part history lesson. All podcast.

This week Mike and Jeff end 2009 in fine style by presenting the second part of their two part interview with Jerry Ordway. This time out, which is slightly longer than the first part, we get more in depth about Jerry’s first few months as the writer of Adventures of Superman in addition to hearing more behind the scenes stuff about the creation of the Milton Fine Brainiac and even the real deal about The Circle. All of this and Superman movie talk as well. This was such a fun interview for Jeffrey and Michael and once again they would like to thank Jerry for his time and enthusiasm for this interview.

Happy New Year, everyone!

    This was so much fun!

  2. I was immensely impressed by Jerry Ordway’s thoughtfulness throughout the interview, including his comments in ep. 33 on the differences between Batman and Superman and why “grim and gritty” just doesn’t work with the Man of Steel. It was also surprising to hear Ordway express such dislike for Superman II, at least given that it’s many people’s favorite among the sequels. I understand (and appreciate) his position, just hadn’t considered what his opinion on that film might actually be.

Greetings from the future….in the past…to the present (?)
Yup, it’s August 2011 and just finished listening this episode #33 (still trying to catch up!) with your interview with the great Mr. Jerry Ordway.

I must say, I was impressed with both his humility and insights/behind the scenes information into the making of these great comics. Also, it did make me realize we haven’t seen much of his work in recent years. I know my younger brother was captivated by “The Power of Shazam!” comic back then as a kid, so I believe his work would still bring in readers. Though I have yet to see if there were any newer interviews with Mr. Ordway, I’d wonder if with the “New 52” there would be art/stories by him somewhere later on, or if he gave opinions on the upcoming changes to ol’ Supes.

    Thanks guys,
