Episode 65: October 1990

Welcome to the sixty-fifth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Part index. Part commentary. Part history lesson. All podcast.

After a week off the boys are back in town with another exciting episode! This time out they are covering the three part “Sinbad Contract”, which ran through Superman #48, Adventures of Superman #471 and Action Comics #658. In this story a young Quraci lad augments his already burgeoning super-powers with a special belt…a belt that Lex Luthor wants at any cost. This was an interesting storyline and one that Mike and Jeff thought they were going to dislike but it turns out that time heals most wounds and they actually ended up digging on a large portion of the story.

Cover date October 1990 was also Curt Swan Month in the Superman titles. Not only did the esteemed Mr. Swan draw all of the regular Superman books (written by William Messner-Loebs for those interested) but he also drew Superboy: The Comic Book #9. This issue didn’t inspire much talk about the story but Jeff and Mike do spend a good chunk of time discussing about the television series as Jeff has seen more of it at the time of this recording. After that are the usual Elsewhere in the DCU and the Elsewhere, Elsewhere segments.

Next Week: Parts one through four of Krisis of the Krimson Kryptonite with a special guest!

No additional scans this week.  Things have been crazy and Mike just didn’t have the time.  They will return soon, though.  Promise

Keep up the good work fellas. Still playing catch up with 60 episodes… but so far they all sound good! I recall reading most of these books and I’m pretty sure I own them all.

Nice episode, fellas, but HOLY COW — turn down the volume the next time you bleep yourselves! Yikes! I thought my office was having a fire alarm about 33 minutes in and jumped out of my skin!

You need one of those warning labels like the Telarc CDs with sound effects. 🙂

  3. Jeremy says:

Unless I’m getting my episodes mixed up, I think Jeff was thinking of Reactron that appeared in Supergirl. He’s the guy in gold. I had no idea who he was until the New Krypton saga. I’ll have to do some research on him.
