Every once in a while I stumble across an images or a set of images that just beg to be scanned and posted.  Here are two of those images.  My appreciation of the Pre-Crisis take on Krypton has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years.  I can’t quite put my finger on the reason why.  Maybe it’s an area of Superman I am not all that familiar with and therefore is a new summit to climb.  In any case I was doing some research for an upcoming episode of Views From The Longbox and found these.

Map of Krypton- New World Hemisphere Map of Krypton- Old World HemisphereThese were scanned from the Krypton Chronicles mini-series from 1981.  It was a neat three issue story that told the entire history of Kyrpton in a backwards manner.  This was in the back of one of those issues.  There was also a Superman Family Tree but sadly the way it was situated in the comic made it nigh impossible to scan.  Thankfully I didn’t have that problem with these maps.  What I love about these images is they show that the creators were putting a lot of thought into the back story for Superman.  It’s all well and good to simply say he was rocketed from the planet Krypton and raised by the Kents but to go to the trouble of fleshing out the history of that planet is really cool.

If you find the Krypton Chronicles on the cheap I suggest that you pick them up.  They’re  a little dated but are still fun reads.
