PREVIEWS OF THE DEATH OF CLARK KENT

So I’ve posted the cover to the Previews that contained the solicitation for Superman #100.  Then I posted the black and white house ad.  Now, as Paul Harvey used to say, is the rest of the story…or the rest of the stuff in that edition of Previews that had to do with Superman #100 and The Death of Clark Kent.  First up is a the listing of the Gems of the Month.

Okay, it’s not much.  Just another shot of the cover, but it counts.

On a similar note.

Again, just another shot of the cover.  Again, it’s a great image and I still thought it was worth posting.

If you are in the mood for something more substantial.

The copy plays fast and loose with how the story actually went but it’s not a huge deal.  This is a piece meant to entice retailers and those that looked through Previews to buy copies of Superman #100.  Hype is the name of the game and Superman kind of fakes his own death so it’s stretching the truth and not an outright lie.

They sure got a lot of mileage out of that image though.

Not that I’m complaining.  I want that on a T-shirt.

And now the solicitations themselves.  Nothing too eye popping here.  Superman #100 obviously deserved the color treatment.  I am somewhat amused that they refer to foil covers as being “enhanced” but that’s because I miss the ’90s.  I left in the solicitation for the signed and numbered edition of The Death of Superman trade paperback because I didn’t know it existed until seeing this page.  It’s a neat bit of crass commercialism as well.  Pimping an older “Death of” story along with a new one just makes sense and I approve of this.  I also love the breathless copy on the solicitations.  It’s practically daring you not to read the issue.

And that’s that for Superman #100 in Previews.  I know I keep writing this but I really wish that cover had gotten a wider release.  It is so sharp and dramatic.  Maybe it will get a retro release in the future.
