013 Golden Age Superman — May 1939
This is it. This is the big one. The premiere of Superman issue #1. And to commemorate the event, I have brought together some of the best in Superman podcasting today — Michael Bailey and Jeffrey Taylor of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast, Charlie Niemeyer from Superman in the Bronze Age, and Kaman Stowell of the Superman Video Podcast. Together, we first take a look at Action Comics 13, where a protection racket turns out rather randomly to be the sinister machination of Superman’s first recurring villain — the Ultra-Humanite. Then we look at the new material in Superman 1, including the hero’s origin, and reminisce on how this book has affected all our lives. And we can’t leave out the Action Comics backup features or the newspaper strips. So come join the party!
If you wish to send feedback, you may do so in the comments below or via email or on the show’s Facebook page. You can also subscribe to the show through iTunes, and leave a review if you like to spread the word to others. Thank you so much for listening!

The Thrilling Adventures of Superman, Episode 12

Welcome to episode 12 of The Thrilling Adventures of Superman. The show’s mission is to explore the history and development of the Superman in his formative years by chronicling the Man of Steel’s Golden Age adventures in comics, radio and film.
This time out, Michael looks at the second storyline from the Superman daily newspaper strip. It’s a major storyline where we learn for the first time how Clark Kent landed his job at the Daily Star! The 18 strip-long story also features Superman meeting Lois again for the first time, and details one of our hero’s earliest exploits (even if it is strangely familiar). Also in this episode, Michael concludes his two-part Spotlight on Superman’s co-creator, writer Jerry Siegel.
And stay tuned for the end of the episode where Michael is joined by his friend Michael Kaiser for a special announcement about a guy who likes to dress up like a bat!
