FROM CRISIS TO CRISIS EPISODE 93: FEBRUARY 1992 PART 1

Episode 93: February 1992 Part 2

Welcome to the ninety-third episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Part index. Part commentary. Part history lesson. All podcast.

All right…this one was late. Really late and we (mainly Mike) apologize for that, but after some delays and a knife fight the newest From Crisis to Crisis is here. In this exciting episode J. David Weter (he of Superman Forever Radio fame) joins Jeffrey and Michael to begin the show’s coverage of one of the most awesome Superman stories ever!

PANIC IN THE SKY IS HERE!

Well, the prologue is at any rate. Before the boys and David can get to that they cover Adventures of Superman #487 which, as Jeffrey points out, is the third Christmas related story in a row. While that might sound like the holiday is getting old it isn’t as Bibbo plays Santa and Jimmy is reunited with a loved one in a touching and heartwarming scene that should make you at least choke up a little and if you don’t we doubt very much that you have a soul. Also we get to see more Agent Liberty, which is always a treat. Then Panic in the Sky begins with a prologue in Action Comics #674. Old characters, some not seen since the end of Exile, return as the major bad guy (or girl) of the story is revealed!

After that the guys look at the last issue of the Adventures of Superboy comic book with issue 22 and tell you what else was going on in the DC Universe this month.

For those curious, here is the cover to that final issue of the Adventures of Superboy.

Mike and Jeffrey would like to thank J. David Weter for coming on to the show and hope he will return again someday.  Be sure to check out Superman Forever Radio if you don’t already listen to that podcast!

NEXT WEEK: Panic in the Sky continues with another special guest!

Superman in the Bronze Age Episode 19 — March 1972

Well, it took a little bit, but episode 19 is finally here!  After we get through a couple of emails, Superman takes on a new foe, then teams up with Green Arrow to save face, deals with his satanic son(?), and faces off with an Indian medicine man again (sorta!).  Plus, we see what else was going on in the DCU this month.

Superman Forever Radio Episode 26- July 2007

Episode 26- July 2007

This episode explores the man of steel via the 31st century past, present, and future by way of a flashback device in Action Comics #850, an emotional story about Superman‘s loneliness.

Then it’s on to Superman #663, which features the young gods, Lightray, and finally something relevant to Camelot Falls, the semi-ongoing storyline.

Finally, it’s artificial life vs biological life, by way of BRAINIAC in Superman/Batman #35.

The Thrilling Adventures of Superman, Episode 17

The Thrilling Adventures of Superman

Welcome to episode 17 of The Thrilling Adventures of Superman. The show’s mission is to explore the history and development of the Superman in his formative years by chronicling the Man of Steel’s Golden Age adventures in comics, radio and film.

The death of a close friend is the instigator for Superman’s adventure as Michael looks at ACTION COMICS #12. Superman does a whole lot of smashin’, crashin’, mashin’ and trashin’ (and has an unsettling amount of fun doing it) — all in the name of making the roads safer you and I. Will Superman succeed in his campaign? Or will he just endanger more lives than he saves? And what’s this rumor about Superman creeping about under a strange man’s bed?! Only one way to find out!

016 Golden Age Superman — August 1939

Episode 016 — August 1939

This week on Golden Age Superman, it’s bunches of Superman stories in the first episode to have both the monthly and quarterly books in full effect.  In Superman 2, reprinting several stories from the newspapers, the Man of Tomorrow helps a depressed ex boxing champ, “Superman Champions Universal Peace” and kills a WHOLE buncha people along the way, and stops a skyscraper construction project from being sabotaged in “Superman and the Skyscrapers”.  Then in Action Comics 17, the Man of Steel learns that the passenger liners of a shipping line are getting blown up one by one, and you’ll never guess who’s behind it, on his way to world domination.  Enjoy and tell all your friends!

If you wish to send feedback, you may do so in the comments below or via email.  You can also subscribe to the show through iTunes, and leave a review if you like to spread the word to others.  Thank you so much for listening!

Superman Forever Radio Episode 25- Whatever Happened to the man Who Has Everything

Episode 25- Whatever Happened to the man Who Has Everything

This week, the Superman tales written by British comic book legend Alan Moore.

From the cracked mirror look at the politics of Krypton in “For the Man Who Has Everything” to the tear-jerking epic finale of “Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow” Alan Moore brings a pathos to the Man of Steel.

Also, news from the SFR Daily Planet- Tom Welling on Jimmy Kimmel, Bryan Singer on why Superman Returns failed, Bizarro to the rescue, and more.

Then, we return to the animated universe of the Man of Steel, as he takes on the menace of Metallo in “The Way of All Flesh” before wrapping it up with a production note.

Remember to come back Thursday when we review the Superman comics cover dated July of 2007, including Action Comics #850.
