Superman Forever Radio Episode 33- LIVE!

Episode 33- LIVE!

It’s the first episode of Superman Forever Radio recorded while streaming live.

While there are technical issues at the beginning, there are some great moments as Neil Cole of the Supermansupersite.com and Isaac Daniel Frisbie of The World’s Best Podcast drop in to talk the Superman Celebration, and the Superman movie franchise.

It was a learning experience, but a heck of a lot of fun.

Next Sunday- back to normal as we look at the Superman comics on stands for October, 2007 as well as Bizarro and Lobo.

020 Golden Age Superman — December 1939

Episode 020 — December 1939

Golden Age Superman is back again to finish out not just the year, but the 1930s decade!  AND to complete its celebration of the Ultra Humanite’s farewell to Superman’s comic stories with Action Comics 23.  For this final installment, I have J David Weter of Superman Forever Radio with me, and we talk about Ultra trying out her new life as a woman and what Superman has to do to stop her.  It’s probably the best Ultra-Humanite story we’ve had, just in time for the character to say good-bye.  Then it’s off to the daily and Sunday newspaper strips where war hits Europe and Superman get attacked … by a BEAR??!!

FROM CRISIS TO CRISIS EPISODE 96: APRIL 1992 PART 1

From Crisis to Crisis Episode 96: April 1992 Part 1

Welcome to the ninety-sixth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Part index. Part commentary. Part history lesson. All podcast.

Welcome to a horrendously long episode of From Crisis to Crisis. Normally Mike and Jeff like to keep the show at the hour and a half/two hour mark. This time out, however, the episode is nearly three hours long. You could blame this on their guest, Jon M. Wilson, but the fact that the boys decided to break format this week and do not two but THREE different comics played a part as well.

Why three comics? Well, next week marks Superman’s inclusion into the Justice League and that means Jeff and Mike are going to start covering Justice League America. However, there was a Justice League special before that, so this week you are getting three of the regular Superman titles and next week you get two Justice League related comics and the final Superman book all with a cover date of APRIL 1992!

Panic in the Sky concludes this week in two and a half issues. Why two and a half? Because the final book the boys and Jon discuss has only a little to do with Panic in the Sky. In Superman: The Man of Steel #10 one of the heroes sacrifices himself and leads to a lengthy debate about characterization and set-up. Superman #66 sees the heroes make their final stand against Brainiac and you will be surprised at who actually brings the villain down. Finally in Adventures of Superman #489 Panic in the Sky officially ends…ten pages in. The rest of the issue sets up yet another story with Professor Hamilton finally getting around to helping Husque and his sister after remembering his vow to do so. There is also a neat revelation about the collected edition of Panic in the Sky. After that there is some Adventures of Superboy television talk and what else was going on in the world around the time these comics were on the stands.

Mike and Jeff would like to thank Jon Wilson for appearing on the show again. You can find Jon’s own Superman podcast, Golden Age Superman, right here at the Superman Podcast Network!

NEXT WEEK: Justice, Action and Justice again! Plus Jon Wilson returns.

This week, Superman gets an abusive caregiver arrested for arson and stops some jewel smugglers with the help of Lois Lane in Superman 3.  Then it’s Action Comics 20, the second installment in the final trilogy of the Ultra Humanite, where Ultra does some gender bending and comes out of the story with more estrogen and soft skin than he had last issue.  And in the newspaper dailies, Clark goes to work for the DAILY PLANET!!

Superman Forever Radio Episode 31- The Secret Origin of a Superman Fan

Episode 31- The Secret Origin of a Superman Fan

This week takes a different turn.

I was feeling a little sentimental after finding an old Superman book from my youth, and felt compelled to scrap the episode I had planned, in favor of a more personal look back at my own foundations of fandom.

It’s a little bit different from what I normally do, but I think it was something I needed to do.

I do take a moment to add in some news from the week, and talk a little bit about Metropolis, Illinois.

Superman Forever Radio Episode 30- September 2007

This week, a change back to the old format is coming, a LIVE episode of Superman Forever Radio is on it’s way Sunday May 29, 2011, and David is testing out some new waters.

But, as far as the books cover dated September 2007:

It’s Jimmy Olsen week, as Action Comics 852 features a story within a story. Jimmy explores the world of super-powers, as Superman takes out the Kryptonite Man. And, a flashback reveals the origin of Jimmy’s signal watch.

The Jimmy Olsen train makes another stop in Superman 665, where we see the secret origin of Jimmy, which will be ret-conned out by Secret origin.

And, finally, what is making Superman lose his mind with fear? It could be a certain villain who uses fear as a motif, but you would only be half right. Superman/Batman 38 Brings us the answer, and a New God falls. Literally.
