New 52 Adventures 07 — Action Comics 4

Episode 07 download here

Month 4 is upon us.  In December, we saw Action Comics ramp up the action with “Superman vs. the Men of Steel”, and Jon, Mike, and Dave tackle the story in all its awesomeness.  And don’t forget that Action Comics 4 also had the first in a series of backup stories, “Hearts of Steel”.  Also, we address emails and iTunes reviews in this episode, so continue to write in with your thoughts on the books and characters.

Thanks so much for listening. We do hope you enjoy the show, “we” being Jon M. Wilson from Golden Age Superman, J. David Weter of PADSmash!: An Incredible Hulk Podcast and Green Lantern’s Light, as well as Michael Kaiser from the newly revived Legends of the Batman.  If you have thoughts on the books we cover or on our comments regarding them, please share them by writing an email or comment below.

Next episode due April 15

FROM CRISIS TO CRISIS EPISODE 128: LEGACY OF SUPERMAN

Episode 128: The Legacy of Superman

Welcome to the one hundred and twenty-eighth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Part index. Part commentary. Part history lesson. All podcast.

So you may have noticed that From Crisis to Crisis hasn’t been around for a few weeks. Mike would like to apologize for that. Real life has once again reared its ugly head and getting episodes out has been more problematic than usual. This isn’t something either of the boys planned but that is how real life works sometimes. Because of this Mike and Jeff have decided to take another two week break to get everything sorted out so they can come back strong and finish the epic Death of Superman storyline.

In a weird way it is kind of fitting when you think about it. The Superman books took about three months off after Superman #77 and now Mike and Jeff have taken about that much time off episode wise. They joked about doing so and now it has turned into a self-fulfilling prophesy. Strange.

Anyway this week Mike and Jeff begin the show with a rather lively discussion of the Max Landis Death of Superman parody video which both men…hated. The original plan was to cover the broad strokes and move on but apparently Mike had more to say than he thought he did as usual. After that they cover The Legacy of Superman, an anthology special containing stories about the Guardian, Rose and Thorn, Gangbuster, Sinbad and Waverider and how those characters are dealing with the death of Superman. Quick heads up about Gangbuster; he’s not taking it well. This is followed by a brief look at THE Superman Gallery, a special filled with Superman covers from the forties until the nineties. The boys finish things off this week by looking at what else was going on in the DCU around this time.

You can subscribe to the show in two ways. First there is the RSS Feed and there is also the iTunes link.

If you want to comment on the show or contact the hosts you can always private message Mike and Jeff, at the Superman Homepage, leave comments here or at the Homepage or here or email them by clicking this link.  All questions, concerns, fears, trepidations and cheap shots are welcome.

Also, be sure to check out Mike’s blog, the Fortress of Baileytude, for all kinds of neat Death and Return of Superman related scans, videos and more!

The Thrilling Adventures of SupermanWelcome to episode 62 of The Thrilling Adventures of Superman. The show’s mission is to explore the history and development of the Superman in his formative years by chronicling the Man of Steel’s Golden Age adventures in comics, radio and film.

Finally! It’s back to the Sunday newspaper strip as Michael looks at the fourth storyline. Unfortunately, it’s a sub-par story overall. But, the good news is, there’s plenty of the action, intrigue and insanity we’ve come to love in Superman’s Golden Age adventures, as Clark Kent and Lois Lane (and Superman!) set out to aid a relief fund for a war-striken foreign nation.
