Superman in the Bronze Age Episode 54 — Birthday Month Part 1

Hello faithful listeners!  And welcome to Birthday Month here on Superman in the Bronze Age.  This time out, I am joined by Billy Hogan (The Superman Fan Podcast) and Jeffery Taylor (From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast, Green Lantern’s Light) to for part 1 of our extensive coverage one of the most well known Superman stories of all time. This time out, we cover the comic book version of “For the Man Who Has Everything.”  But, before we get into that, we see what your responses were to last episode’s super-question and talk a little bit about the Slipstream, the webcomic that Billy and Jeffery created and I get to color (which is available from Clockwork Comics).  And finally, J David Weter begins his coverage of the main part of DC Collector’s Edition #7, featuring Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes!

The Thrilling Adventures of Superman, Episode 82

The Thrilling Adventures of SupermanWelcome to episode 82 of The Thrilling Adventures of Superman. The show’s mission is to explore the history and development of the Superman in his formative years by chronicling the Man of Steel’s Golden Age adventures in comics, radio and film.

We return to Man of Steel’s audio adventures this episode for a look at the 17th storyline from the Superman radio serial. After wrapping up the dangling plot elements from last storyline, Clark Kent, Jimmy Olsen and, of course, Superman, set sail into a brand new adventure as a wayward turtle leads them to investigate “The Curse of Dead Man’s Island!”

FROM CRISIS TO CRISIS EPISODE 141: REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN PART 7

Episode 141: Reign of the Supermen Part 7

Welcome to the one hundred and thirty-ninth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Part index. Part commentary. Part history lesson. All podcast.

Reign of the Supermen Continues!

This week Mike and Jeff continue their coverage of the last act in the Death and Return of Superman saga. Joining the boys for this surprisingly normal sized episode is Joshua Lapin-Bertone, who is a panelist on the Spider-Man Crawlspace Podcast and hosts a bunch of other shows including Bertone’s Beatles Bonanza. He has also read every issue of Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane and wrote about that on Live Journal, which makes him legally insane. This time out the gang looks at the back half of the Superman books with an August 1993 cover date. First up is Adventures of Superman #503 which has a vicious confrontation between the Cyborg and Superboy. Then in Action Comics #690 the Justice League gets duped about the whole Coast City thing and we finally learn the true origin and identity of the Last Son of Krypton. Finally there is some discussion about what else was going on in the DCU when these stories took place in the Elsewhere in the DCU segment.

Quick heads up; there are two audio problems with this episode. At one point Mike wanted a snack and forgot to hit mute so there is some crinkling for a minute or two. The other is Jeffrey’s audio was a bit wonky at the end of his recap. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Mike and Jeff would like to thank Josh for coming out to play yet again. He, like all of the other guest hosts, is welcome back anytime.

You can subscribe to the show in two ways. First there is the RSS Feed and there is also the iTunes link.

If you want to comment on the show or contact the hosts you can always private message Mike and Jeff, at the Superman Homepage, leave comments here or at the Homepage or here or email them by clicking this link.  All questions, concerns, fears, trepidations and cheap shots are welcome.

Also, be sure to check out Mike’s blog, the Fortress of Baileytude, for all kinds of neat Death and Return of Superman related scans, videos and more!

Next time: Charlie Nieymeyer returns to the show to help the boys look at Action Comics Annual #5, Superman: The Man of Steel #25 and Superman #81.
