- THE DICTATOR OF KRYPTON CITY (12 pgs.), written by Bill Finger, pencilled by Dick Sprang and inked by Stan Kaye. This story has been reprinted in WORLD’S FINEST COMICS ARCHIVE vol. II and SHOWCASE PRESENTS: WORLD’S FINEST vol. I.

- Tomahawk starred in the 6 page story, MYSTERY OF THE VANISHING BOYS, drawn by Bob Brown.

- Green Arrow and Speedy starred in the 6 page story, THE CASE OF THE GREEN ERROR CLOWN, written by Ed Herron and drawn by Lee Elias.

In a quartet of stories, we visit a silver-age Jimmy as he solves a mystery, with the clock ticking. From there, it’s off to the 30th century as Elastic Lad Teams up with the Legion of Superheroes.

And then, to the turn of the century as an older, and wiser Jimmy solves a mystery as editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet, and finally the man of action must track down his famous signal watch.

SUPERMAN’S GIRL FRIEND LOIS LANE 6, January 1959, was published around November 13, 1958. It contained 32 pages for the cover price of 10¢. Mort Weisinger was the editor, and the cover was pencilled by Curt Swan and inked by Stan Kaye. It featured the second story in this issue.

- THE AMAZING SUPERMAN JUNIOR (9 pgs.), written by Jerry Coleman, pencilled by Wayne Boring and inked by Stan Kaye. This story was reprinted in SUPERMAN ANNUAL 8, Winter 1964, published on November 21, 1963. All three stories in this issue were also reprinted in SHOWCASE PRESENTS: SUPERMAN FAMILY vol. II and SUPERMAN’S GIRL FRIEND LOIS LANE vol. I.

- LOIS LANE, CONVICT (8 pgs.), featured on the cover, was written by Bill Finger (according to The Grand Comic Book Database at comics.org) and drawn by Kurt Schaffenberger.

- LIEUTENANT LOIS LANE, U. S. ARMY (9 pgs.), was done by the same creative team as the previous story in this issue.

SUPERMAN’S PAL JIMMY OLSEN 34, January 1959, was published around November 20, 1958. It contained 32 pages for the cover price of a dime. Mort Weisinger was the editor, and the cover was pencilled by Curt Swan and inked by Stan Kaye. It featured the first story in this issue. All three stories were reprinted in SHOWCASE PRESENTS: SUPERMAN FAMILY vol. II.

SUPERMAN’S PAL JIMMY OLSEN 32, October 1958, was published around August 21, 1958. It contained 32 pages for the cover price of 10¢. Mort Weisinger was the editor, and the cover was pencilled by Curt Swan and inked by Stan Kaye. The art team for all three stories was penciller Curt Swan and inker Ray Burnley, and the stories themselves have been reprinted in SHOWCASE PRESENTS: SUPERMAN FAMILY vol. II.

- THE SUPER NOSE FOR NEWS (8 pgs.), was written by Otto Binder, and was also reprinted in 80 PG. GIANT 2, September 1964, published around July 2, 1964.

- THE ROCK ‘N’ ROLL SUPERMAN (8 pgs.), was also written by Otto Binder.

- THE JIMMY OLSEN FROM JUPITER (10 pgs.), was written by Alvin Schwartz and was featured on the cover of this issue. This story was also reprinted in 80 PG. GIANT 2, as well as THE GREATEST 1950′S STORIES EVER TOLD and SUPERMAN: THE AMAZING TRANSFORMATIONS OF JIMMY OLSEN.

Also highlighted in this episode is what I believe is the first Jimmy Olsen letter page, JIMMY OLSEN’S PEN PALS.

WORLD’S FINEST COMICS 97, October 1958, was published around August 26, 1958. It contained 32 pages for the cover price of a dime. The editor was Jack Schiff, and the cover was pencilled by Curt Swan and inked by Stan Kaye.

- The 12 page Superman/Batman story was titled, THE DAY SUPERMAN BETRAYED BATMAN, written by Bill Finger, pencilled by Dick Sprang and inked by Stan Kaye. It was also reprinted in 80 PG. GIANT 5, October 1965, published around August 19, 1965, as well as WORLD’S FINEST COMICS ARCHIVES vol II and SHOWCASE PRESENTS: WORLD’S FINEST vol. I.

- Tomahawk starred in the issue’s second 6 page story titled, THE STRANGE JOURNAL OF OLD BLUE JAY, written by Dave Wood and drawn by Fred Ray.

- Green Arrow starred in the issue’s final 6 page story titled, THE MENACE OF THE MECHANICAL OCTOPUS, written by Ed Herron, pencilled by Jack Kirby and inked by Roz Kirby.

- The 12 page Superman/Batman story was titled THE SUPER – FOES FROM PLANET X, was written by Edmond Hamilton, pencilled by Dick Sprang and inked by Stan Kaye. This story was reprinted in WORLD’S FINEST ARCHIVE vol. II and SHOWCASE PRESENTS: WORLD’S FINEST vol. I.

The two 6 page stories which finished the issue were:

- Tomahawk in TOMAHAWK’S PONY PARTNER, written by Dave Wood and drawn by Bob Brown.

- Green Arrow in FIVE CLUES TO DANGER, pencilled by Jack Kirby and inked by Jack and Roz Kirby.

SUPERMAN’S PAL JIMMY OLSEN 31, September 1958, was published around July 17, 1958. It contained 32 pages for the cover price of 10¢. Mort Weisinger was the editor, and the cover was pencilled by Curt Swan and inked by Stan Kaye and Al Plastino. All three 8 page stories were drawn by the creative team of penciller Curt Swan and inker Ray Burnley, and was reprinted in SHOWCASE PRESENTS: SUPERMAN FAMILY vol. II.

- THE E – L – A – S – T – I – C LAD was written by Otto Binder and was reprinted, in 80 PG. GIANT 2, September 1964, which was published around July 4, 1964. This story was also reprinted in SUPERMAN: THE AMAZING TRANSFORMATIONS OF JIMMY OLSEN.

- THE MAD HATTER OF METROPOLIS was written by Bill Finger. At the bottom of the final page of the story was an ad for a historic story in SUPERBOY 68, October 1958, THE AMAZING BIZARRO, which was covered way back in Episode 67 Part I.

- THE BOY WHO HOAXED SUPERMAN was written by Otto Binder.

Welcome to episode 88 of The Thrilling Adventures of Superman. The show’s mission is to explore the history and development of the Superman in his formative years by chronicling the Man of Steel’s Golden Age adventures in comics, radio and film.

The show is back and so is a very familiar foe! A strange occurrence on a train ride home catapults Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen into their latest adventure as an enemy from the past rise to once more plague the Man of Steel. Alliances are formed and loved ones are threatened as Michael begins a look at the 18th storyline from the Superman radio serial!
