After another week long hiatus the boys are back with more Superman goodness. This time out Mike and Jeff take a look at the Superman books with the September 1990 cover date. Soul Search continues in Superman #47 where Superman faces off against an old enemy and Gangbuster enters the fray. Adventures of Superman #470 has the last chapter of Soul Search and a supporting cast member that has been with the book since the beginning of the revamp loses his life. The Toyman returns in Action Comics #657 and we learn what happened to Schott after the events of Superman #13. Finally there’s Superboy: The Comic Book #8, which is a Bizarro story.

It’s a silly Bizarro story but it is a Bizarro story nonetheless.

You get all of that and the usual Elsewhere in the DCU and Elsewhere, Elsewhere features.

And now…onto the scans for the week!

The “gray months” conclude this time out with the second set of Superman books that had no cover date. This doesn’t stop Jeff and Mike from looking at Superman #26 and Adventures of Superman #449, both of which bore the Invasion: Aftermath trade dress in addition to talking about Invasion #2, which Mike makes no bones about loving. So this week you get the first appearance of Baron Sunday, Guardian vs. Gangbuster, the return of the Newsboy Legion, Jimmy meeting Bibbo and lots and lots of super-heroes and villains versus lots and lots of aliens. It’s an action packed episode, folks with action, suspense and even a smattering of voodoo.

This week Mike and Jeff kick off 2010 by returning to their regular format and examining the books that came out with the cover date of…well, there’s actually no cover date on these books at all. Mike explains why in the episode but suffice to say this month could either be referred to as “Holiday 1988” (because other books that came out at the same time bore that cover date) or, as Jeffrey puts it, the first of two “gray months”. In any case the books the guys discuss are Superman #25, featuring the return of Brainiac and Adventures of Superman #448, featuring a very cranky Superman. Plus Mike gives you all you need to know about Invasion! in less than five minutes and a few e-mails to boot.

This week Mike and Jeff have a holiday treat for you! A couple of weeks ago the boys “sat down” with writer/artist Jerry Ordway to chat about his work on Superman. In this first part (Yes, there are two parts, folks. Jerry was very generous with his time.) Jerry talks about how he became a fan of Superman, how coloring books led to him breaking into the business, how he was tapped to pencil Adventures of Superman and the very candid behind the scenes stories of how Bibbo, Cat Grant, Jose Delgado and Emil Hamilton were created. Jeff and Mike had a lot of fun with this interview and would like to thank Jerry for taking the time to talk to two Superman fans.

And just think; there’s another hour to come next week!
