Episode 3: Trumbo

The most irregular show on The Fortress of Baileytude Podcasting Network is back and this time I am heading back to the cinema.  Recently I watched the 2015 movie Trumbo, starring Bryan Cranston, Diane Lane, Helen Mirren, and John Goodman.  It’s an amazing movie that dramatizes the story of writer Dalton Trumbo, one of the writers that were blacklisted in the fifties due to his communist affiliations.  Joining me to discuss the film is Rob Kelly (he of The Film and Water Podcast, Fade Out, Pod Dylan, Superman Movie Minute, Treasurycast, and more) and we spend about an hour going through what we liked about the movie, what performances stood out to us, the Hollywood blacklist in general, and Diane Lane.

During our discussion, Rob mentioned a documentary about Dalton Trumbo called Trumbo.  It’s an interesting documentary because it is a mix of footage from the time, interviews with Trumbo, interviews with his son, and dramatic performances of Trumbo’s writing.  It is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime.

And if you are interested in the Hollywood Blacklist, you can find several articles here, here, and here.

Next Time: No clue.  As usual, the next episode has not been recorded yet, but this is an irregular show, so it will return at some point.

  1. I haven’t seen this movie. I love movies but I’ve lagged in my television/movie viewing for the last five or six years. That being said, as a fan of Trumbo’s work, I listened anyway and it’s a good episode, enough so to compel me to go watch the movie. I halfway expected you to open the episode with “One” by Metallica.
