I mentioned in my last post that I was going through Season 5 of Smallville lately. Surprisingly I enjoyed it. I didn’t think I would but there it is. There were the obligatory bad episodes that made me want to punch someone square in the face, but overall it had a really good arc and the writing was much better than Season 3.
Then again I liked Season 4 when I re-watched it so what the hell do I know?
Anyhow, I am the type of guy that likes to check out deleted scenes and one from the sixteenth episode Hypnotic was very odd to watch. There was very little post-production work done on the deleted scenes and this is illustrated when you have the character of Simone (she of the hypnotic jewelry) racing down one of the back Smallville country roads (there’s a John Denver song in there somewhere) and there is literally no sound. Not even the roar of an engine. Just Simone driving really fast, getting pulled over, using her little neck thingie and getting out of the ticket. It was just odd. I felt like I was missing something.
So I thought about and then over thought about because that’s what I do and realized that two things were missing from this deleted scene; the car noises and some crappy pop song that I barely tolerate but they have several in every episode so I kind of have to put up with it if I want to watch the show. But which crappy pop song? It has to tie into the plot somehow because most of the songs do that.
And then it hit me.
Avril Lavigne’s Girlfriend.
Yeah, I know. That song wasn’t on the air during Season 5. Doesn’t matter. It would have been perfect. Absolutely perfect. The lyrics match what Simone was doing in the episode.
So perfect.
Or at least I think so and since this is my blog I get to express that thought.
(By The Way: I have been meaning to post this for two days now but I have been having some issues with WordPress. Turns out one of my plug-ins was causing some problems and when I would open the page to write a new post the page would load and load and load and then my web browser would freeze up. So sorry I haven’t been around over the past few days but technical difficulties and all that.)
