Episode 7: May 1987

Welcome to the seventh episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast!  This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Part index.  Part commentary.  Part history lesson.  All podcast.

This week your hosts, Michael Bailey and Jeffrey Taylor, examine the books that came out with the cover date of May 1987, which included Superman #5, Adventures of Superman #428 and Action Comics #588.  On that particular month readers were treated to Clark fighting a mummy, Superman acting all big and tough to find Perry White’s son and a crossover with Hawkman and Hawkwoman.  All of this and the first appearance of Bibbo too.

FROM CRISIS TO CRISIS EPISODE 6: APRIL 1987

Episode 6: April 1987

Welcome to the sixth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Part index. Part commentary. Part history lesson. All podcast.

This week your hosts, Jeffrey Taylor and Michael Bailey, examine the books that came out with the cover date of April 1987, which included Superman #4, Adventures of Superman #427 and Action Comics #587. This episode runs about an hour and a half not only because of the commentary about Superman #4 and Adventures #427 but also because for the first time Mike and Jeff dip into the “mailbag” of sorts. If you like hearing the e-mails and general feedback let the boys know either way because it will add some time to the episodes. Also if you would like them to have a name for this feature (such as Kryptograms or Metropolis Mailbag or Re: Action) comment below and they’ll take it under consideration. Other than that there’s the first appearance of Bloodsport, Superman’s war on terrorism and a time spanning adventure with the Demon.

KINGDOM COME FICTION

Another one of those posts that happens because something just…occurs to me after looking at an image.

My current computer wallpaper is this.

Comic Books- Kingdom Come 003

This is a modified version of the one from the official DC website.  The max resolution on my screen is 1280 x 800.  At some point in the future I will purchase a separate monitor so I can have a somewhat larger screen and be able to use my boss Superman Returns keyboard but for the moment the resolution is what it is.  While this doesn’t bug me in my day to day life when it comes to wallpapers it is problematic.  My scanner is not as nice as it should be so making my own is out because I am pretty much a Luddite when it comes to Photoshop beyond cutting, pasting, resizing and the like.

Episode 5: March 1987

Welcome to the fifth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Part index. Part commentary. Part history lesson. All podcast.

This week your hosts, Michael Bailey and Jeffrey Taylor, examine the books that came out with the cover date of March 1987 and is the first post-Crisis crossover, both in terms of the books crossing over with each other and in terms of crossing into a major DC event. Superman #3, Adventures of Superman #426 and Action Comics #586 were all chapters of the Legends crossover that DC published in late 1986/early 1987. Jeff and Mike discuss Legends as a mini-series before going into the issues themselves with a little more Legends talk right there at the end. This episode clocks in at about an hour and eighteen minutes, which is a tad longer than normal but the extra space is worth it. At least the guys think so, but what do they know?

Episode 4: February 1987

Welcome to the fourth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

This week your hosts, Jeffrey Taylor and Michael Bailey, examine the books that came out with the cover date of February 1987. The guys spend a good 36 minutes talking about Superman #2, which either means it had a lot going for it or that Mike and Jeff are just chatty. Then there’s Adventures of Superman #425, where a supporting character has something of a break down. Finally the guys talk about Action Comics #585, which Jeff and Mike thought was ok but not a book you wanted to take home to meet the parents.

Part index. Part commentary. Part history lesson. All podcast.
