Part index.  Part commentary.  Part history lesson.  All podcast.

REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN CONTINUES!

This week Mike and Jeff continue their coverage of the last act in the DEATH AND RETURN OF SUPERMAN saga.  Joining the boys for another extremely long but fun episode is Jon Wilson, host of GOLDEN AGE SUPERMAN and co-host of THE NEW 52 ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN.  Jon has his work cut out for him as well as Mike and Jeff are nearing the halfway point for REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN!  In ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #502 Superboy meets Supergirl and we are introduced to the villain known as The Stinger.  Then, in ACTION COMICS #689 a mysterious new Superman pops up in the Fortress as the Man of Steel and Last Son of Krypton fight over who has the right to bear the name Superman.  Finally, in SUPERMAN ANNUAL #5 we are introduced to a new hero called Myriad but because it is part of Bloodlines she is destined to be mediocre at best.  The trio finishes out the show with what else was going on in the DCU at the time these books were on the stands.

Mike and Jeff would like to thank Jon for coming out to play yet again.  He, like all of the other guest hosts, is welcome back anytime.

REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN CONTINUES!

This week Mike and Jeff continue their coverage of the last act in the DEATH AND RETURN OF SUPERMAN saga.  As has become their habit lately, they brought a friend along.  Joining the boys for an extremely long but fun episode is Stephen Lacey, host of TWENTY MINUTE LONGBOX and co-host of THE FANTASTICAST.  Stephen joins the boys to discuss two more books from cover date July 1993 starting with SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL #23.  In this exciting issue we see the first meeting between the Man of Steel and “Don’t Call Me” Superboy in addition to the origin of the White Rabbit.  Fair warning; Mike, Jeff and Stephen do a pretty good job of making fun of the White Rabbit through this segment and by a “pretty good job” they mean “they all hate this character and are not shy about telling you why they feel that way”.  This is followed by SUPERMAN #79 where Ron Troupe proves just how insensitive he is by asking for Clark Kent’s job while Ron and Clark’s friends and family are packing up the late Mr. Kent’s apartment.  Oh, and something big happens with the Cyborg Superman and terrorists and the White House.  Mostly it’s Ron trying to take a dead man’s job before the body is even found.  Finally, Jeffrey brings you the MEANWHILE, AT THE DAILY PLANET segment and boy is there a lot of arguing here about things that have nothing to do with Superman.

It’s a wild one this week, dear listeners!  So strap in, hang on and prepare for the awesome sauce that is FROM CRISIS TO CRISIS!

Mike and Jeff would like to thank Stephen for coming out to play, staying up so late and wish him a very happy birthday.  He, like all of the other guest hosts, is welcome back anytime.

FCTC EPISODE 137: REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN PART 3

Episode 137: Reign of the Supermen Part 3

Welcome to the one hundred and thirty-seventh episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast!  This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN CONTINUES!

This week Mike and Jeff continue their coverage of the last act in the DEATH AND RETURN OF SUPERMAN saga and once again they brought a friend along.  Joining the boys this time out is Shawn Engel, host of JUST ONE OF THE GUYS: A GREEN LANTERN/GUY GARDNER PODCAST and co-host of WALKING DEAD WENESDAYS over at the TWO TRUE FREAKS podcasting empire.  It seemed like a no-brainer to have Shawn on for this episode because guest starring in ACTION COMICS #688 is none other than Guy Gardner!  Apparently Guy is a bit miffed that four people are claiming to be Superman because while he never really liked the Man of Steel he did take down Doomsday when no one else could.  So expect a big ol’ fight with the Last Son of Krypton with an unexpected ending.  Then, begrudgingly, the trio cover SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL ANNUAL #2, which is part of BLOODLINES and introduces the new hero named Edge.

It’s not good.

(Future Edit: In late 2015, the guest for this episode, Shawn Engel, passed away suddenly.  Shawn was not only an amazing podcaster with a quick wit and a keen insight, he was also one of the nicest guys that ever walked the Earth.  This world lost one of its lights when Shawn left us.  Rest easy, friend.)
