NEW GODS WEEK – CORRECTIONS

Last week was New Gods Week here at the Fortress and boy was it a lot of fun.

So much fun that I forgot to post two entries.

To say that I felt a little silly after discovering this is a bit of an understatement.  I should have caught the mistake earlier but it’s been really crazy around the house right now so these two just fell through the cracks.  In any event here are the last two Who’s Who entries I scanned featuring the New Gods.

Enjoy.

NEW GODS WEEK – DAY FIVE

Welcome to Day Five of New Gods Week here at the Fortress.  I am a firm believer in the fact that the New Gods are spin-offs of Superman, so they certainly have a home here.  This week I wanted to celebrate them while also cleaning out the Who’s Who coffers so I can move on to other things.  Today I am finishing things off with the rest of the New Gods entries I have on the hard drive.  I hope you enjoyed this week of Who’s Who entries and let me know what you thought of it.

NEW GODS WEEK – DAY ONE

Normally I have a little blurb here about how it’s Monday and that means it’s time for another Who’s Who entry and then I introduce the character.  This time out I am doing something a little different.  While I have weeks and weeks of entries to post I am getting to the point where I want to move on to something else…like scanning entries from the Secret Files and Origins specials from the late ’90/early 00’s.  Because of this there is one sub-set of those entries that I want to post all at once over the course of five days so I can get them out of the way.  Ladies and gentlemen I present a group of characters that I consider to be spin-off Superman characters considering where they first appeared.  Much like The Facts of Life was a spin-off of Different Strokes these characters will always have a connection to the Man of Steel while still having their own thing going on.  Without further ado I present Day One of New Gods Week!

As I am a firm believer of leading with strength I’ll kick things off with some of the evil New Gods and their home.

REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN – THE ROLE PLAYING EDITION

Every time I think I have this whole Death and Life of Superman thing covered something comes along to remind me that I really don’t.

Last weekend I was listening to the first episode of DC RPG: The Hero Points Podcast (part of the Fire and Water Family of Podcasts) hosted by the Irredeemable Shag (of Firestorm Fan fame) and Siskoid (of Siskoid’s Blog of Geekery).  If you haven’t heard of this show yet and are a fan of the Mayfair DC Roleplaying Game then I heartily suggest you check the show out because not only is it hosted by two awesome people but it is a treasure trove of info about the previously mentioned Mayfair DC Roleplaying Game.  Towards the end of the episode they mentioned that the game had a third edition, which I remembered hearing about but never looked into because it hadn’t really popped up on my radar yet.

Well it has now.

Why?

Because while talking about that third edition it was revealed that the four Supermen (Cyborg, Steel, Last Son and don’t call him Superboy) all had entries.  Suddenly I was Brody in the movie Mallrats after learning that Stan Lee was at the comic shop in the mall.

HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS????

Well, it proves one thing.   Actually it proves several things but the main thing it proves is that there is still much about the Death and Return that I have to learn and that I can’t get lax in continuing to find new and interesting bits of business about the story.

It also proves that I need to learn more about the Mayfair Role Playing game, but I’ll let Shag and Siskoid be my guides on that journey.

Thanks to a friend (who shall remain nameless because I didn’t ask if it was cool for me to say) I have scans of the Reign of the Supermen entries.  There are more Superman related items in the third edition but I really wanted to get these out there first.  Enjoy!

And check out DC RPG: The Hero Points Podcast…because it is awesome.

DIRECT CURRENTS 1995 SPECIAL

Much to my surprise and delight I continue to learn that there are really interesting things out there when it comes to Direct Currents.  The series ended in 1995 and there was a special in 1997 which I have already covered here.  In doing some research I found that there was a 1995 special as well which had some cool Superman related items in it.  Enjoy.
