Welcome to another of the re-tooled Who’s Who Wednesdays, a regular feature here at the Fortress where every Wednesday (hence the name) I will present an entry from the original series of Who’s Who comics that DC published between 1984 and 1988.  Superman was well represented in those series and I wanted to share the entries with you just in case you have never seen them.  Today’s entry is Lord Satanus!

Nothing too deep today, folks.  Just more stuff from the edition of Previews that had the solicitations for Zero Hour.  No real order to this but I think they’re rather keen.

So for those that were hoping for the latest From Crisis to Crisis today I apologize.  We are not on another unintended hiatus.  Work was work this past week so I am a bit behind.  The episode will be up tomorrow.  In the meantime, here’s Mr. Conway Twitty.

A “mulligan” is defined by Wikipedia as, “a section chance to perform an action, usually after the first chance went wrong through bad luck or a blunder. Its best-known meaning is in golf whereby a player is informally allowed to replay a stroke (though this is against the formal rules of golf). The term has also been applied to other sports and games, and to other fields generally. The origin of the term is unclear.”  It’s a word I hear Jack McCoy use frequently on old episodes of Law and Order, which is actually where I first heard the term.  Today I am going to give myself a mulligan on something I posted some time ago.

One of the features here at the Fortress is the House Ads page.  I like posting these, especially the Post Crisis ones, because when you see them all together you get a visual history of that era of Superman.  Those ads are how DC chose to sell those books to the comic reading audience.  One of them, which I posted in an old From Crisis to Crisis post and really can’t find anymore, was an ad for Time and Time Again, the story where Superman bounced around time and first met the Linear Man.  It’s on of my favorite Post Crisis/Pre-Death stories and for awhile the copy I had for it was one from a letters page and to be honest because of the early nineties printing technology the thing looked like crap.

Luckily I had a back up, though for the longest time I didn’t know it.  From time to time in the ’90s DC would put out little giveaways to comic shops that were previews of whatever they wanted to sell at the time.  They put one out in 1991 that was called Sneak Previews #1, which had snippets from a then upcoming Justice Society mini-series and Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn II.  I was leafing through it recently and smack dab in the middle of that book was this bad boy.

We have a large format scanner at work and recently I finally plunked down the money to get this bad boy scanned for reals.  The quality is still not 100%.  You can see the staples, the paper has not aged well and I have to play with the border a bit but you get the gist.  I am just happy to have a higher quality version of it and I hope you like it.

Here endeth the mulligan.
