OVERLOOKED DARK KNIGHT EPISODE 20: PROPER USE OF BIG BEN

Episode 20: Proper Use of Big Ben

Welcome to the twentieth episode of The Overlooked Dark Knight.  The is a non-index index show where the hosts, Andrew Leyland and Michael Bailey, look at Batman comics that rarely, if ever, get talked about.  In the second episode of the month they discuss the various books that were associated with the animated Batman shows of the nineties, though just about everything is fair game.

It’s a shorter than usual episode this time out because someone (Andy) had a train to catch.

Seriously.  He had a train to catch.  The man was going to find comics.

It’s a noble endevour.

Anyway, things get animated this time out as the guys look at the second issues of two of the animated tie-in comics from the ’90s.  In Batman Adventures #2 the Joker draws Catwoman into his plot and she leads Batman on a chase to England.  Big Ben is involved but it actually has to do with the plot and isn’t just a prop to let the audience know that the characters are in London.  Then in Batman and Robin Adventures #2 the Two-Face two parter concludes with a bunch of people getting kidnapped and Dick Grayson being kind of a jerk to Batman.

There is a time and a place to tell someone, “I told you so!” and being tied to a chair after a scarred criminal kidnaps you is not that time.

Just saying.

Below is a gallery of covers and pages from the comics we discussed this time out.

OVERLOOKED DARK KNIGHT EPISODE 19: ANOTHER RUNNER IN THE DARK KNIGHT

Episode 19: Another Runner In The Dark Knight

Welcome to the nineteenth episode of The Overlooked Dark Knight.  The is a non-index index show where the hosts, Andrew Leyland and Michael Bailey, look at Batman comics that rarely, if ever, get talked about.  In the first episode of every month they usually talk about Bronze Age Batman stories from the late seventies to early eighties though just about everything is fair game.

This time out things get crazy…Crazy Quilt that is.  The Robin villain returns in Batman #316 and while there are holes you can drive a truck through the guys have a lot of fun talking about this story.  After all it’s Crazy Quilt…who doesn’t love him?  Then in Detective Comics #486 we get a Maxie Zeus story.  If you were expecting to hear Andy and Mike talk about the aftermath of the death of the Earth-1 Batwoman prepare to be as disappointed as the guy were because holy crap did this confuse them at first.  Sure things happen and stories get shifted and maybe a deadline gets blown but could they have possibly found a worse substitute villain?

On the other hand they could have so we’ll take what we can get.

OVERLOOKED DARK KNIGHT EPISODE 18: THE JOKER IS A BIG JERK

Episode 18: The Joker Is A Big Jerk

Welcome to the eighteenth episode of The Overlooked Dark Knight.  The is a non-index index show where the hosts, Andrew Leyland and Michael Bailey, look at Batman comics that rarely, if ever, get talked about.  In the second episode of the month they discuss the various books that were associated with the animated Batman shows of the nineties, though just about everything is fair game.

This time out the Joker proves that he’s just a big jerk.  Actually, he’s more than a jerk, but the guys try to keep this family friendly. Oddly enough the Joker is not the main villain in either of the books the guys discuss during the course of this episode but he definitely sets things in motion. In Batman Adventures #1 the Penguin hatches a crime thanks to the prodding of the Clown Prince of Crime while over in Batman and Robin Adventures #1 the Joker gets bored and uses his criminal genius to make Two-Face believe that Bruce Wayne and Harvey Den’t fiance Grace are having relations. Either way, the Joker is a huge jerk even though he’s kind of funny at times.
