VIEWS FROM THE LONGBOX EPISODE 266: ANNIVERSARY COMICS WITH FRIENDS

Episode 266: Anniversary Comics With Friends or Why Did I Do This To Myself?

In the second part of the extremely late and yet still entertaining set of episodes celebrating 10 years of Views From The Longbox I am joined by The Irredeemable Shag (of The Fire and Water Podcast) and Andrew Leyland (of The Overlooked Dark KnightHey Kids ComicsListen to the ProphetsThe Fantasticast and The Palace of Glittering Delights) to talk about three…count them…three anniversary issues of super-hero comics.  These comics include Brave and the Bold #150, Star Wars #50 and Amazing Spider-Man #250.  I also spend about twenty or so minutes at the end when the guys have left to talk to you about the show and where it’s going.

Here are some pages from the comics we talked about on this episode.

Thanks again to Shag and Andy for being on the show.  It was a lot of fun to record and edit.

Next Time: To be continued…

IT ALL COMES BACK TO SUPERMAN EPISODE 7 – ACTION COMICS: 80 YEARS OF SUPERMAN

Episode 07 – Action Comics: 80 Years of Superman

For the seventh episode of this show I am joined by Andrew Leyland (of The Overlooked Dark Knight, Hey Kids Comics, Listen to the Prophets, The Fantasticast and The Palace of Glittering Delights) to talk about the hardcover collection Action Comics: 80 Years of Superman.  This book was released in April of 2018 and was meant to celebrate not only the 80th birthday of Superman but the 80th birthday of Action Comics as a title.  Andy and I compare this book to a previous collection meant to celebrate Superman’s birthday before diving into this volume.  What stories did they choose to reprint?  What were the essays like? What was Jor-El like in college?  Andy and I ask and answer all of those questions and more.

After the main conversation I read some listener feedback and then explain why certain projects that were planned for 2018 fell by the wayside.  During this segment I also get a little personal and open up about a loss my wife and I suffered earlier this year.

Next Time: The Superman birthday celebration continues with the audio from the Superman The Movie : 40 Years of the Fastest Typist Ever Seen panel from DragonCon 2018.

FCTC EPISODE 224: OCTOBER 1995 PART 1

Episode 224: October 1995 Part 1

Welcome to the two hundredth and twenty-fourth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast!  This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Cover date October 1995 begins as two villains that have faced the Man of Steel in previous episodes return.  In Action Comics #714 The Joker is back in Metropolis because a toy magnate was stupid enough to want to produce Joker related toys without cutting the Clown Prince of Crime in on the action.  Then, in Superman: The Man of Steel #49, kids with bat wings are popping up in Metropolis again and Superman has to save Keith and his friends from the Fagin-like bad guy…Skyhook!  Plus, Clark is having some weird dreams about the destruction of Krypton?  Is this some foreshadowing for another major storyline that will stretch across the Superman titles?

Yes.

The answer to that question is yes.

The Trial of Superman is coming in a few episodes.  Get ready.

Below is a gallery of covers and selected pages from the comics discussed.
