THE SUPERMAN AND LOIS TAPES EPISODE 14 – MAN OF STEEL OR WE SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE

Episode 13 – Man of Steel or We See What You Did There

The BAM Crew (Bethany, Alison, and Michael) are back with the seventh episode of Superman and Lois, which was appropriately titled Man of Steel.  And boy was this a great episode.  The Crew discusses all aspects of the episode starting with Jordan’s new power, which leads to them discussing the power of super hearing in general.  They chat about how Lana was used in the episode.  And yes…they talk about the reveal.

You know…the big reveal towards the end of the episode involving Captain Luthor.

So, if you haven’t see the episode yet and don’t want it spoiled, come back to this episode later, but the image for this episode sort of spoils the spoiler.

But wait!  There’s more!  Mike brings back Professor Bailey’s Superman 101 lesson, which is about the spoiler.  Not the Batman related character.  The spoiler that…you know, this gag is getting tired.  Anyway, y’all get the lesson and who has The Most Punchable Face.

OVERLOOKED DARK KNIGHT EPISODE 51: UNDER THE HOOD PART 1

Episode 51: Under The Hood Part 1

Welcome to the fifty-first episode of The Overlooked Dark Knight. The is a non-index index show where the hosts, Andrew Leyland and Michael Bailey, look at Batman comics that rarely, if ever, get talked about.

Y’all ready for another series of episodes covering a storyline?

Well, Andy and Mike hope you are because this time out they are embarking on a sequel of sorts to their Jim Starlin coverage.  In 2004 Jason Todd came back from the dead in a storyline that has been released in a collected edition called Batman: Under The Hood.  This storyline was popular at the time, but has largely been forgotten as Jason Todd’s Red Hood has become an accepted part of the Bat family.  He’s been back for nearly sixteen years, but the story where that happened has largely been eclipsed by the animated adaptation.  Since they just covered his death, the guys thought covering his resurrection would be worth a lark.

In this first installment, Andy and Mike cover the first four chapters of the trade, which existed in single issue form as Batman issues 635 to 638.  The fact that they are able to talk about these four issues and deliver a pretty healthy introductory conversation has more to do with the pacing of the story than the quality of it.  There’s a new crime figure in Gotham.  He’s taken the name Red Hood.  Spoiler warning…he’s Jason Todd.  But that wasn’t really spelled out in these first chapters until the very last page.   Along the way Batman has to deal with Black Mask, Mister Freeze, Amazo, and Nightwing pops by to lend a hand.  Andy provides the perspective of a first time reader and Mike is probably going to bore people with the amount of context he gives the stories.

Below are covers and select pages from the books talked about during this episode.

Andy and Mike want your feedback on this episode so they can read it on an upcoming show!  You even have options in how you leave your feedback.  The most direct way is to leave a comment right here on the site.  You can also send all questions, concerns, fears and trepidations to overlookeddarkknight@gmail.com.  Then there’ the Facebook page, where you can also leave a Batman related question for Andy and Mike to answer at the beginning of the show.  If you talk about this show on the social medias please include a #overlookeddk so the guys know where to find it.

THE SUPERMAN AND LOIS TAPES EPISODE 13 – BROKEN TRUST OR STAY IN THE ROOM, JORDAN!

Episode 13: Broken Trust or Stay In The Room, Jordan!

The BAM Crew (Bethany, Alison, and Michael) are back and so are new episodes of Superman and Lois.  Broken Trust was the sixth episode of the series, which aired on May 18, 2021.  Jordan’s powers are getting out of control, in more ways than one, and Jonathan pays the price for it.  Meanwhile, Lois discovers something about Captain Luthor and Lana gets a fantastic job offer.  There is much discussion amongst The Crew about Jordan’s actions, Clark as happy dad, why a kid named Tag having super speed is kind of ironic, and the proper use of The Angry Red Eyes of Anger.

Seriously, the writing staff of this show knows when to use The Angry Red Eyes of Anger.

Episode 253: August 1996 Part 1

Welcome to the two hundredth and fifty-third episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast!  This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Mike and Jeff dive into the August 1996 cover dated books with one comic that they…didn’t care for and one that Mike liked and Jeff thought was better by comparison.  In Superman #114, the Brainiac Puts His Mind In Superman’s Body And Superman’s Mind In The Body Of Some Kid Named Chaz And Chaz’ Mind In Brainiac’s Body story comes to a conclusion.  It was a story.  Decisions were made.  Then, in Adventures of Superman #537, there are monsters on the loose!  Finally, the boys answer the eternal question, “Hey, Wha’ Happened?” by looking at the major new stories and movies that came out the month these comics were published.

Here are the covers and select pages from the books discussed during this episode.

Here is the Watch This Space about the funeral for Jerry Siegel.

Episode 12 – Justice League Dark: Apokolips War or King Shark Is A Shark

The BAM Crew (Bethany, Alison, and Michael) are back with the final hiatus episode and this is a heavy one.  Following up from last week’s discussion of Justice League Dark, the Crew is looking at Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.  Bethany and Alison loved this movie.  LOVED.  THIS.  MOVIE.  Michael…had thoughts.  And misgivings.  They spend a little over an hour hashing everything.  They also reveal who had The Most Punchable Face and they sort through the listener feedback.

It’s fun.  And emotionally draining.  But mostly fun.

OVERLOOKED DARK KNIGHT EPISODE 50: THE BOOKWORM TURNS (COMMENTARY)

Episode 50: The Bookworm Turns (Commentary)

Welcome to the forty-ninth episode of The Overlooked Dark Knight. The is a non-index index show where the hosts, Andrew Leyland and Michael Bailey, look at Batman comics that rarely, if ever, get talked about.

Unless they do a commentary.

For their fiftieth episode, Andy and Mike are kicking back and watching two episodes of the Batman ’66 television series.  Batman has one of the best rogues galleries in popular fiction and most of the big guns traded blows and barbs with Adam West and Burt Ward.  Some of the villains they fought originated on the show and one of the guys’ favorites was The Bookworm.  So, they decided to talk over the episodes The Bookworm Turns and While Gotham City Burns.

Why?

Because the Bookworm is awesome, that’s why.

THE SUPERMAN AND LOIS TAPES EPISODE 11: JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK OR SORRY WE SUMMONED THE DEMON

Episode 11: Justice League Dark or Sorry We Summoned The Demon

This time out The BAM Crew (Bethany, Alison, and Michael) continue their hiatus fun by looking at something that barely features Superman at all.  Justice League Dark is a 2017 animated film that was part of the, for lack of a better way of describing it, New 52 movie series.  Batman reaches out to Zatanna when there is a magic based problem and she turns to John Constantine to figure things out and along the way we see Deadman and Swamp Thing and it’s just a hoot to watch.  The crew talks about the film and along the way they discuss why Michael has issues with Constantine and Batman sharing screen time together, Elseworlds stories, Etrigan the Demon, and so much more.

As promised, here is that list of the New 52 Animated Films

    • Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013)
    • Justice League: War (2014)
    • Son of Batman (2014)
    • Justice League: Throne of Atlantis (2015)

FCTC EPISODE 252: JULY 1996 PART 2

Episode 252: July 1996 Part 2

Welcome to the two hundredth and fifty-second episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast!  This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

The Brainiac Has Put His Mind In Superman’s Body and Superman’s Mind In The Body of Some Kid Named Chaz storyline continues in the back half of the July 1996 Superman titles.  In Action Comics #723, Lois has a weird run in with Brainiac-Superman, Superman-Chaz tries to call Lois, and someone ends up dead by the end of the issue.  Then, in Superman: The Man of Steel #58 (which Mike calls #28 for some reason) Brainiac-Superman fights with Supergirl but then convinces her that everything is fine and she leaves as Superman-Chaz escapes the asylum and makes his way into Metropolis only to find everyone under Brainiac’s control.  Finally, the boys answer the question, Hey, Wha’ Happened? (or as they call it this time, Hey, You Okay Gracie?) with Superboy #29, Steel #28, the Superman related story in Showcase ’96 #6 and Adventures of Superman Annual #8.

Here are the covers and select pages from the books discussed during this episode.
