This time out Andy and Mike are beginning an informal series of episodes looking at the times Batman crossed over with characters from other universes starting with DC Special Series #27, also known as Batman vs. The Incredible Hulk.  The guys talk about the gorgeous Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez (Praise Be His Name) artwork, how Batman could actually fight the Hulk and not die immediately, why the Joker was a good choice for this crossover, why the Marvel villain…wasn’t, and more!

Below are the covers and select pages from the treasury discussed during this epiosde.

Andy and Mike want your feedback on this episode so they can read it on an upcoming show!  You even have options in how you leave your feedback.  The most direct way is to leave a comment right here on the site.  You can also send all questions, concerns, fears and trepidations to overlookeddarkknight@gmail.com.  Then there’ the Facebook page, where you can also leave a Batman related question for Andy and Mike to answer at the beginning of the show.  If you talk about this show on the social medias please include a #overlookeddk so the guys know where to find it.

THE SUPERMAN AND LOIS TAPES – SEASON 2 EPIOSDE 1 – WHAT LIES BENEATH OR EVERYBODY NEEDS SO MUCH THERAPY

Season 2, Episode 1: What Lies Beneath or Everybody Needs So Much Therapy

The CW series Superman and Lois is back with a brand new season, so The Superman and Lois Tapes is likewise starting a second season.  The BAM Crew (Bethany, Alison, and Michael) are present and accounted for and ready to report for duty.  This time out they talk about the previously mentioned first epsisode of Season 2, which was titled What Lies Beneath.  The Crew discusses the amount of therapy most of the cast of this show would need after last season, how certain sentences only work when you say them in the context of fiction, Mitchell Anderson’s attitude towards Superman, Superman’s place as a world figure, how teenagers are going to teenager whenever they can, and how well the relationships are written on this show.

After that, The Crew reveales who had The Most Punchable Face of the episode, who was The Most Aesthetically Pleasing, and there’s even a Professor Bailey’s Superman 101 segment about the comic book roots of Mitchell Anderson.  Plus…LISTENER FEEDBACK!

During the 101 segment, Michael mentions what Mitch looked like when he was introduced in 1992 and the fact that he eventually became a super-hero called Outburst.  Below are images of his early comic book appearances and what his Outburst outfit looked like.

During the episode, Michael mentioned the four epilogue pages that appeared in the Superman titles in 1992 during the lead up to the Doomsday storyline.  These are those pages if you haven’t seen them.

Michael is writing the reviews for Superman and Lois over on The Superman Homepage.  Check out his review for What Lies Beneath by clicking here.

THE SUPERMAN AND LOIS TAPES EPISODE 27 – SMALLVILLE SEASON 1: PILOT AND TEMPEST

Episode 27 – Smallville Season 1: Pilot and Tempest

The BAM Crew (Bethany, Alison, and Michael) are back with one of two episodes that were recorded roughly two months ago but because of real life are not being released until now.

Blame Michael.  It’s all on him.

So, ignore the dates that Michael mentions at the beginning of the episode and hear The Crew talk about the first and last episodes of Season One of Smallville.  From the utter destruction of downtown Smallville (not to mention Lana’s parents) to how the Jonathan and Martha of this series forever changed the perception people have of The Kents, to how fluffy Lex is to how creepy it is that Clark spies on Lana with a telescope to the season finale where Lana is freaked out by Whitney and the battle between Lex and Lionel, The Crew spends roughly two hours going over everything.

Including the obvious sexual tension between Clark and Lex.

IT’S RIGHT THERE!

VIEWS FROM THE LONGBOX EPISODE 275: THE ULITMATE(S) TALK WITH ANDY

Episode 275: The Ultimate(s) Talk With Andy

Back in 2002, Marvel began publishing The Ultimates, a then modern and socio-politically aware version of The Avengers set in the same universe as Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate X-Men.  The writer (Mark Millar) and the artist (Bryan Hitch) updated Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and the others and produced two series over the course of five years.  I recently finished the first series (after starting it over a decade ago) and read the second one and had some thoughts about those twenty-six issues.  My good friend (and podcasting partner over on The Overlooked Dark Knight) Andrew Leyland read the two series at the same time that I did and our messaging back and forth through Facebook turned into an episode where we discuss our feelings on the series, the characters, the writing of Millar, the art of Hitch, how this series inspired the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and what we think of the legacy of the Ultimate line as a whole.

Below are the covers to the comics we discussed during the course of this episode.

Be sure to check out Andy’s other shows.  The Palace of Glittering Delights (which he does on hiw own) the Toon Trek podcast (which he hosts with Paul, Dr. Bill, and Dave), and occasionally  Hey Kids Comics (with his son Micheal).

Views is available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.  You can also like the official Views From The Longbox Page over on Facebook.  You can email the show by clicking this link with all questions, concerns, fears, and trepidations.  Also, if you could leave a review over on Apple Podcasts, that would be keen.

Next Time: No idea, but it will be about comics.  Yeah.  I’ll continue to stick with that.
