OVERLOOKED DARK KNIGHT PRESENTS…A TRIBUTE TO GEORGE PEREZ

Overlooked Dark Knight Presents…A Tribute to George Perez

Welcome to a special episode of The Overlooked Dark Knight. The is a non-index index show where the hosts, Andrew Leyland and Michael Bailey, normally look at Batman comics that rarely, if ever, get talked about.

But not this day.

This time out Andy and Mike are presenting one of two tribute episodes to artists that are sadly no matter with us. First up is a memorial to George Perez. Perez is a legendary artist and writer, but he didn’t write or draw the Dark Knight near as much as he did Superman or Wonder Woman or even Dick Grayson, whether he was Robin or Nightwing. One of the exceptions was the covers to the Batman issues and the interiors (to one extent or another) of the New Titans of the historic storyline A Lonely Place of DyingThis story introduced us to Tim Drake, the (technically) third iteration of Robin. Mike and Andy talk about the era of comics this came from, Perez’ art work, the story as a whole, and what Perez meant to them.

Below are the covers from the comic discussed during this epiosde.

Andy and Mike want your feedback on this episode so they can read it on an upcoming show!  You even have options in how you leave your feedback.  The most direct way is to leave a comment right here on the site.  You can also send all questions, concerns, fears and trepidations to overlookeddarkknight@gmail.com.  Then there’ the Facebook page, where you can also leave a Batman related question for Andy and Mike to answer at the beginning of the show.  If you talk about this show on the social medias please include a #overlookeddk so the guys know where to find it.

The beginning and ending theme to the show is “The Descent” by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/.

If you want to subscribe to the show here’s the RSS Feed and the Apple Podcast link.  If you use iTunes please leave us a review.  Not only will we read that on the air like the other feedback but it really helps the show out.  The show is also available on the Google Play Store and Spotify.

Next Time: Another tribute special where Andy and Mike talk about the late Neal Adams.

IT ALL COMES BACK TO SUPERMAN PRESENTS…A TRIBUTE TO GEORGE PEREZ

It All Comes Back To Superman Presents…A Tribute to George Perez

On May 6, 2022, artist and writer George Perez passed away due to complications from pancreatic cancer. To say that Perez was a force of nature in comics is a massive understatement. He wrote and drew some of the best comics published during the last fifty years while also being one of the nicest people on the face of the planet. To celebrate his life I got together with my good friend Andrew Leyland to talk about the man, and the times we met him over the years. We also talk about two Superman stories that George drew, DC Comics Presents #61 and Action Comics #644. Along the way Andy and I discuss the evolution of Perez’ take on Superman, which you can find examples of below.

Below are the covers and select pages from the two comics Andy and I discussed during the episode.

And here are select panels showing some of my favorite Superman art by Perez.

THE SUPERMAN AND LOIS TAPES SEASON 2 EPISODE 13 – ALL IS LOST OR I AM THE PUMPKIN KING

Season 2 Episode 13 – All is Lost or I Am The Pumpkin King

The BAM Crew (Bethany, Alison, and Michael) are back with thoughts on episode 13 of the second season of Superman and Lois. All is Lost is not only a lyric from one of the numbers in A Nightmare Before Christmas, it is also an episode about dads reconnecting/connecting with their kids. The Crew compares the four fathers presented during the episode and while it was a tough contest they ulimately choose who was the best dad. They also talk about what should happen with Lucy, why Lana was tough but fair with Jordan, how both Lana and Clark let down their children with past pop culture and so much more.

Also, Bethany reveals who had The Most Punchable Face and Alison lets everyone know who was The Most Aestheticaly Pleasing people in the episode. Michael also delivers a really off the cuff Professor Bailey’s Superman 101 when Alison asks for one about the Parasite. Finally, The Crew addresses all of your feedback!

THE SUPERMAN AND LOIS TAPES SEASON 2 EPISODE 12 – LIES THAT BIND OR EMOTIONAL DAMAGE, EMOTIONAL DAMAGE

Season 2 Episode 12 – Lies That Bind or Emotional Damage, Emotional Damage

The BAM Crew (Bethany, Alison, and Michael) are back to talk about the latest episode of Superman and Lois Season 2! Lies That Bind dealt with the fallout from Clark’s revelation to Lana about his secret identity and The Crew had some serious feels about the whole thing. On the more amusing side, The Crew also had some serious feels (in a good way) about how great Tal-Rho was in this episode and even have some scenarios on how he and Clark got the flowers he gave to Lois.

Also, Bethany reveals who had The Most Punchable Face and Alison lets everyone know who was The Most Aestheticaly Pleasing people in the episode. Finally, The Crew addresses all of your feedback!

THE SUPERMAN AND LOIS TAPES SEASON 2 EPISODE 11 – TRUTH AND CONSEQUENCES OR MY CHEMICAL FALLOUT BOY

Season 2 Episode 11 – Truth and Consquences or My Chemical Fallout Boy

The BAM Crew (Bethany, Alison, and Michael) are back with their final catch-up episode before the new episodes start airing. Well, sort of before. Not entirely before. More like two days after the latest episode airs and Mike got busier than he thought, so editing got delayed, but here it is so there’s that.

Anyway, this time out The Crew is discussing the eleventh episode of Superman and Lois Season 2, which was titled Truth and Consequences. Bethany, Alison, and Michael discuss what Jon-El’s villain name should be and settle on My Chemical Fallout Boy. They also get into what has emerged as the main theme of this season, which is secrets and what impact they have on the various relationships between the characters. There is also a discussion about Tyler’s cute bunny teeth.

Also, Bethany reveals who had The Most Punchable Face and Alison lets everyone know The Top 5 Most Aestheticaly Pleasing people in the episode. Finally, The Crew addresses all of your feedback!
