Welcome to the sixty-sseventh episode of The Overlooked Dark Knight. The is a non-index index show where the hosts, Andrew Leyland and Michael Bailey, look at Batman comics that rarely, if ever, get talked about.

This time out Andy and Mike talk about the 2010 one shot titled Batman: Hidden Treasures. This special featured a never-before released Bernie Wrightson Batman story made up entirely of splash pages. Ron Marz provided the script for the story and before you know it DC has a new Bernie Wrightson Batman story to sell. The fact that it’s really good helped too. The guys chat about the story and the reprint of Swamp Thing #7 that was in the back of the book. They also go on several tangents involving Superman and Lois, music, and so much more.

Episode 21 – Lost Conversations Part 2: Action Comics #300 with Bob Fisher

This time out I finish up the two part series of “lost” conversations that aren’t really lost in the traditional sense. Back in 2018 I had this series of episodes planned where I would look at the various centennial issues of Action Comics (100, 200, 300, etc.) leading up to the release of Action Comics #1000. That didn’t happen. For reasons. I go into it during the episode, so you’ll hear it there. Long story short, I recorded two installments and they’ve sat on the hard drive since then.

Until now.

Last time I had a chat with Jon Wilson. This time I have a chat with Bob Fisher, who hosts Superman Forever Radio, about the Superman story from Action Comics #300, Superman Under the Red Sun. The Man of Steel is trapped in the far future where the Earth has a red sun. How does he get out of this mess? Bob and I talk about that, where the Kents lived when Clark was a boy, Red Kryptonite,  and a bunch of other Silver Age topics that involve Superman during the time period when this comic was published. We also briefly touch on the Supergirl story that appeared in this issue, which leads to a tangent about Jim Mooney and Curt Swan.

Overlooked Dark Knight Presents…A Tribute to Neal Adams

Welcome to another very special episode of The Overlooked Dark Knight. The is a non-index index show where normally the hosts, Andrew Leyland and Michael Bailey, look at Batman comics that rarely, if ever, get talked about.

This time out it’s another tribute episode. Andy and Mike take a look at two stories drawn by Neal Adams, one of the most influential Batman artists ever. Neither of these stories could be described as overlooked, but the guys chose them anyway. First up is Batman #232, which features the first appearance of Ra’s Al Ghul. This is followed by Batman #255, which sees Batman facing off against an honest to goodness werewolf. The guys dive deep into Adams’ art on both stories, while also discussing the writing of them as well. They even chat about the episode of Batman: The Animated Series that adapted both of these tales. More than anything they talk about what Neal Adams meant to Batman and meant to them personally.

Episode 20 – Lost Conversations Part 1: Action Comics #100 with Jon Wilson

It All Comes Back To Superman returns with the first of two lost conversations!

Well, to be fair, the conversations were never actually lost. Back in 2018 I had this great idea for a series of episodes leading up to the release of Action Comics #1000 where I team up with another Superman podcaster and talk about a centennial issue of Action Comics. Seemed like the thing to do. Unfortunately the dog that my wife and I got in 2002 passed away right in the middle of recording the installments and my desire to do anything, much less a series of episodes celebrating a thousand issues of a comic book.

The thing is the two conversations I did record were a lot of fun, so I thought it might be worth a lark to release them. In this first installment, Jon Wilson (of jonreadscomics.com) and I discuss Action Comics #100, which features a fun little story about a short man trying to figure Superman’s identity. We also talk about where Superman was at this point in his publishing history, what the other features were in Action Comics at this time, and even some of the ads that were in the book.

FROM CRISIS TO CRISIS EPISODE 261 – OCTOBER 1996 PART 2

Episode 261 – October 1996 Part 2

Welcome to the two hundredth and sixty-first episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast!  This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Mike and Jeff are back to wrap up the Superman books that came out on the tail end of cover month October 1996. In Action Comics #726 Barrage (or, as he likes to be called now, Television’s Barrage) returns to get his revenge on Maggie Sawyer, which is kind of his thing. Then, in Superman: The Man of Steel #61, Superman takes Professor Hamilton to the Fortress of Solitude as Perry White has it out with Franklin Stern over the hiring of Dirk Armstrong. Finally, the boys look at the Superman related books that came out that month, including Steel #31, Superboy #32, Supergirl #2, Superboy and the Ravers #2, Justice League: A Midsummer’s Nightmare #2, Eradicator issues 1 to 3, Detention Comics #1, Showcase ’96 #9, Action Comics Annual #8, and Legion of Super-Heroes #85. They also talk about a handful of other titles.

Full disclosure…the Elsewhere in the DCU/Wha’ Happened section is long. Mike and Jeff had to take a break from recording and that part of the episode was the first things they had recorded in some time, so they were extra chatty.

THE SUPERMAN AND LOIS TAPES SEASON 2 EPISODE 15 – WAITING FOR SUPERMAN OR WAITING FOR THE OTHER SHOE

Season 2 Episode 15 – Waiting for Superman or Waiting for the Other Shoe

The BAM Crew (Bethany, Alison, and Michael) gather together to dicuss the Season 2 finale of Superman and Lois. Waiting for Superman wraps up the Parasite storyline in fine style, but the Crew has thoughts. Topics include where Lucy should have really gone, the theoretical future of the trucks that were given to the Kent boys, the major revelation dropped about where this show fits into the overall CW Arrowverse, and much, much more.

Also, Bethany reveals who had The Most Punchable Face and Alison lets everyone know who was The Most Aestheticaly Pleasing people in the episode. Then, Michael delivers a Professor Bailey’s Superman 101 lesson plan on the Parasite  Finally, The Crew addresses all of your feedback!
