ACQUISITIONS – NEW COMICS 02/27/2013

This one is a tad bit late but I wasn’t able to hit the comic shop last week so it works out in the end.

Superman Books

Injustice Gods Among Us #02 Superman #233 FullFor some reason Superman #17 came out on March 6th instead of the last week of February, which is strange and I am sure there is a reason for it that I just missed.  In any case, there were no mainstream Superman books released this week but I managed to snag a few comics that had to do with the Man of Steel.  I was going to include Teen Titans #17 but Superboy was not in that issue so I decided to include that in the “Other Books” section.

Injustice: Gods Among Us #2 was great.  I am really liking this series and it is not what I would have expected from a video game tie-in.  There is a moment in this issue that was “spoiled” for me before I bought the issue but it hit me just as hard when I read it in the context of the story.  Tom Taylor is crafting a great “Elseworlds” type story and I am looking forward to seeing how this plays out.  The copy of Superman #233 was something of a birthday present.  I needed it too as the copy I did have was literally coming apart.  Dave (my current dealer) found this one and gave me a good deal on it.  It is not pristine mint but this copy is in beautiful condition and I am glad to have a nicer copy for my collection.

Other Books

  • Batman Incorporated #8
  • Fury of Firestorm #17
  • Aquaman #17
  • Flash #17
  • Red Lantern #17
  • Teen Titans #17
  • Green Lantern Corps #17

Thank goodness for Internet spoilers because I would have missed out on Batman Incorporated #8.  I have been buying this book off and on since the new series started and eventually I would have wanted a copy of this.  Finding it would have been harder and more expensive if I didn’t get the heads up on the Monday before.  So one e-mail later it was in my box on Wednesday.  Fury of Firestorm and Aquaman were both excellent and if you want to hear some great commentary on those issue check out Episode 45 of The Fire and Water Podcast hosted by the Irredeemable Shag and Rob Kelly.  Teen Titans was enjoyable and seems to be heading in an entertaining direction.  I have not had the chance to read Flash or the two Lantern related books as I am still catching up on those, but I am looking forward to them.

I also picked up some inexpensive back issues as well.  Dave had recently purchased a collection of more recent comics and I managed to snag the first 13 issues (counting the zero issue) of Brightest Day and issues 6-13 of the Green Lantern Corps ongoing that started in 2006 for a very reasonable sum.  The GLC books in particular were really nice to find because those were the last issues of that series that I needed and for some reason those go for a pretty decent chunk of change on eBay.  I bought the Brightest Day issues on a complete lark.  That series came out at the height of me and DC not getting along so I missed it then and while I have been interested in them I just didn’t want to pay a lot of money for the series.  So now I have to track down the back half of that series on the cheap.  Donations are always accepted.

Actually I was kidding on that last part.

All in all it was a good week for new comics and apparently it was also a good week for old or at least older comics as well.  It was weird not going to the shop this week but that’s how it goes sometimes.  I should be back on a bi-weekly buying schedule again though maybe I can work it out to be weekly.  We’ll see how that goes.
