Episode 223: September 1995 Supplemental

Welcome to the two hundredth and twenty-third episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast!  This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

On this thrill (and technical difficulties) packed episode Mike and Jeff look at the supplemental books published with a September 1995 cover date.  First up on the docket is Superboy #19, where we find out who Champion is and get to see Knockout’s dark side.  Then in Steel #19 John Henry and the really bad ‘90s characters mount a final assault on Hazard and Black Ops and the final page is a kick in the pants.  For John, anyway.  Mike and Jeff are pretty much neutral on the ending.  Then the boys blitz through New Titans #125, Outsiders #22, Showcase ’95 #8 (which is actually really good), and Loose Cannon #4.  Finally, Mike and Jeff look at what else is going on the DCU during this month as well as looking at what happened in the real world and film in segments they like to call Elsewhere in the DCU and Meanwhile, At The Daily Planet.

(Technical Note: You are not imagining things if Mike’s voice sounds a little strange.  The boys record this over Skype and for some bizarre and unknown reason Mike’s voice got pitched down something fierce.  He tried to compensate in editing but there are moments where he sounds a little deeper than normal.  Mike has no idea why this is happening.  It seems to be a Skype thing.  It could be the recording software.  Anyway, it didn’t ruin the episode but it’s there.  So…heads up and stuff.)

Below is a gallery of covers and selected pages from the comics discussed.
