Episode 86: November 1991 Part 2

Welcome to the eighty-sixth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast!  This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Part index.  Part commentary.  Part history lesson.  All podcast.

This week Mike and Jeff tackle the back half of the Superman books with the cover date of November 1991.  Adventures of Superman #484 kicks off the Blackout storyline, which the boys don’t regard as highly as they do other extended storylines.  In the first chapter of the arc the mysterious Mister Z returns to not only find his missing gemstone but to get his get back on the Man of Steel as well.  His plans get kind of ruined when a meddling Prof. Hamilton not only causes Mister Z and Superman to be blown out of the sky (long story) but for Metropolis to be bathed in darkness…a blackout one would say.  The story continues in Action COmics #671 where the people of Metropolis are forced to deal with the crime wave caused by the blackout.  Luckily Gangbuster and the Thorn are on the job but where is the Man of Steel?  Stuck at sea with Mister Z, which wouldn’t be so bad if both men weren’t suffering from amnesia!

Once that bit of fun is over the boys get into the ads and then Elsewhere in the DCU where they not only discuss the other major books that came out that month but also a four part story that ran in issues 59 to 62 of Suicide Squad.  In that story we not only see President Marlo (remember him) but also Superman.  It turned out to be a great story and both Mike and Jeff recommend it highly.  After that they read some e-mails and wrap things up for this week.

Next week: Blackout continues…unfortunately.
