Or Yule. Or the Holidays. Or whatever you celebrate. This time of year is just plan awesome. I love the music. I love the weather. I love the feeling I get when my wife and I watch Christmas movies in our den with the lights off except for the Christmas tree.
It really is the most wonderful time of the year.
Last year I chose to celebrate Christmas here at the Fortress by posting a different Christmas related comic book cover everyday from the first through Christmas Eve. This year I am going to try and do something both different and more involved. Above you’ll see the cover to Christmas With The Super-Heroes #1. Christmas With The Super-Heroes #1 is a reprint book that collects Christmas themed stories from the sixties, seventies and eighties and as I type this sentence I realize I suddenly sound like one of those radio stations that plays soft rock from all eras. I bought this comic when it came out in 1988 mainly because of the fantastic John Byrne but it quickly became a favorite of mine because of the stories inside. I love this book and literally take it out of the collection/archives every Christmas and read through it again.
Traditions are important after all.
This year I thought it might be fun to not only re-read this book but all of my DC holiday themed anthologies. As I pulled them out of the short box (which sounds vaguely dirty) inspiration struck. “What if…” I began to think, “…I read through Christmas With The Super-Heroes and these other books and briefly wrote something about each story on the Fortress? One story per day until Christmas Day.”
“Sounds like a plan to me.”
“Yes it does.”
“Wait…am I still thinking to myself?”
“It seems like you are.”
“Well…stop it. It probably looks weird.”
“How can it look any weirder than you standing in front of a closet surrounded by short boxes wearing super-hero themed sleep pants and a white T-shirt?”
“Good point.”
Anyway, it sounded like a plan mainly because it was, in fact, a plan. A really fun plan, too. I won’t be writing a full synopsis followed by in depth commentary because I am realistic about the amount of time I will have to write these posts. I know me and I know how easy it is to let time slip away. So short but fun posts about some great (and in some cases not so great) Christmas and/or holiday themed super-hero stories every day until the 25th.
The fun really starts tomorrow, folks so y’all come back now, you hear?
